Our home away from home: Atlanta ROnald mcdonald house charities-the gatewood house
The Gatewood House opened it's doors
in June 2008 and has served more than 6,800 families. In 2013, 1,498
families were served here. The Gatewood House replaced the first
Atlanta Ronald McDonald House on Houston Mill Road. The Houston Mill
House opened in 1979 and was the 4th Ronald McDonald House in the world.
The Gatewood House features sustainable design and a state-of-the-art immune suppressed wing.
The 60,871 square foot facility opened in June 2008 and was the second Ronald McDonald House in the RMHC system built to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environment Design) specifications. The 50-bedroom House contains some of the most innovative features for a facility of its type.
The Carlos and Marguerite Mason Transplant Wing is specially equipped with 10 private, two-bedroom suites for the families of post-transplant children who have received heart, liver, kidney and blood and marrow transplants. The transplant wing is separate from the other 40 guests rooms to protect the children from exposure to infections.
The Gatewood House includes common family and support areas, a family kitchen and dining room, a family conference and teaching room, a family library and business center with computers, an arts and crafts/activity room and a family laundry facility.
Eco-friendly, sustainable design was key to the planning and construction of the House. Many of the materials were chosen because they were made from recycled products.
The Gatewood House is the second Ronald McDonald House in the world to receive LEED certification.
Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc. (ARMHC) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to serving the needs of children, by providing temporary housing and support services to families of ill and injured children being treated at local hospitals.
No family is turned away if they cannot afford the $20 per night contribution and many of these families stay at the Ronald McDonald House for weeks, and sometimes months, while their children receive treatment at local children's hospitals. Donate today to help keep families together at our home away from home.

How you can help the armhc
Pop Tab Program Since 1998 $113,000 has been collected for the Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses through Pop Tab donations!
Across the Metro-Atlanta area, hundreds of individuals, schools and companies are working together to collect pop tabs to benefit Atlanta Ronald McDonald House Charities. Those pop tabs are then recycled and ARMHC receives the market value of the recycled metal.
Last year ARMHC raised $9,827 through the Pop Tab Program!
HOW YOU CAN HELP:
1) Become an ambassador for recycling and ask your family, friends, school, church, or company to get involved.
2) Remove the pop tabs from every aluminum can and collect them in a convenient container (coffee cans, milk jugs, plastic bags, etc.)
3) Once you’ve collected a large amount of pop tabs, drop them off at one of the two Atlanta Ronald McDonald Houses (Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. -5:00 p.m.) or at your local recycling center and ask that the check be made to ARMHC. You can then mail your check to the Gatewood House location.
