Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is a very serious and rare congenital heart defect. According to the Center for disease control and prevention's site (CDC) estimates that each year about 960 babies in the United States are born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. In other words, about 1 out of every 4,344 babies born in the United States each year is born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome. You can read more under the HLHS FAQ tab on this heart defect and see pictures of what a baby with HLHS's heart actually looks like.
